CHRISTMAS ON ROSY LANE BY ROSE ELAINE

Synopsis

Christmas on Rosy Lane is a series of events and short stories that weave together to form a sweet little novel. The book begins with Betsy, Rose, and Nancy, along with other ladies in the community, as they begin to prepare for the traditional Thanksgiving meal. Each year these ladies feed as many as 100 people, and they have these preparations down to a science. Stories and legends are passed down from generation to generation during these special times, and the joy of the holiday season begins.

We follow Jim and Alex as they find a perfect tree, a storm leaves Jim with a bad ankle, but Betsy knows the proper remedy. We learn that Gertrude, three years old, is convinced that a barn is no place for baby Jesus as she and her brother build a Christmas castle. There is much ado over the Christmas cantata. Hadley is very concerned that the elderly musicians cannot hear and wants to update the festivities with YouTube. At the same time, Rose is steadfast with the season and its traditions. We smile while we read about the children’s Christmas party – we love how each child will choose a “GRAND-FRIEND” and how the church converts an old school bus into “Santa’s Sleigh.” The kids pile in carrying their gifts, sing Christmas carols, and go from house to house, delivering gifts for the elderly. The children delight in their Grandfriends, and the elderly enjoy the children.

Finely we are urged to relax from Christmas to New Year and reflect. We follow Rose, Besty, Jim, and Nancy as they find their own ways to rejuvenate after the busy season and begin to prepare for the new year ahead.
