Synopsis
He’s cocky. Infuriating. And irresistible.
I can’t decide if I want to kiss him or kill him.
When I stepped into the courtroom this morning, I intended to fight for my client’s life. I never expected to run for my own. Now the courthouse is in lockdown, and I’m trapped in a tiny room with my nemesis—the West Oaks PD cop who hates me most.
He’s a single dad with a growly attitude. And he’s the star witness against my client. But it turns out Detective Sean Holt and I do have something in common. This threat against us is personal, and the maniac behind it wants us both dead.
We have one week to catch whoever’s trying to kill us, assuming we don’t off each other first. But as we hunt down leads, I start to suspect I don’t hate Sean Holt after all. I might even like him.
And all this hostility is really turning me on…
Review
I was lucky enough to receive this book from BookSirens. I hope the prospective reader will read this review fully before making any prejudgments on the book. I will give the book my thoughts. These thoughts are completely my own and not swayed in any way by anyone else’s reviews or opinions.
I personally am not always a huge fan of the enemies to lovers’ type of trope. Why? Because it is not always written in a very flattering way. Sometimes I have noticed that the females are whiny and overly judgmental and the males are overbearing with a grudge. This book is not the case. There was this natural chemistry that both characters fought and, in the end, lost the battle to be separated. This was a quick read mainly because you could not put it down.
The characters in the book felt like you could be friends with them and possibly run into them in your local coffee shop. There was something real about this story. Romantic suspense can sometimes get grandiose, but this book made the suspense section feel like a romantic progression and not a trainwreck. This was something that I appreciated. The author did not get caught up in the moment and put too much in.
My Rating: I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is something that I think anyone who loves romantic suspense should dive into. If you haven’t read something with suspense yet, I encourage you to try this book. I love that this book makes you happy. As a reader, I want something that will keep me engaged and this book does that! Get ready for the best truce of your life and hang on. You will enjoy the ride.
