Synopsis
Ellie Liles was raised in a world of backstabbers and shallow beauty. She learned quickly the best way to survive is to trust no one. She lived by that rule, except for when it came to her best friend, the person who always swore to protect her. Until the day he leaves town without a word and shatters the last piece of hope Ellie has.
Tyson Ranes left everything he loved to seek a life where he felt invincible. When he loses the most important fight of his career, his whole future is suddenly unknown. His injuries force him back to his small town and the people he turned his back on. Yet the person he misses the most—who he once considered his best friend—wants nothing to do with him.
Ellie and Ty are at each other’s throats as they try to rebuild a friendship seemingly beyond repair. The closer Ty gets, the harder Ellie pulls away. Then strange things start happening, incidents she can’t explain, and Ellie discovers the consequences of loving Tyson Ranes may be more dire than just a broken heart.
Review
I was lucky enough to receive this book from BookSirens. I hope the prospective reader will read this review fully before making any prejudgments on the book. I will give the book my thoughts. These thoughts are completely my own and not swayed in any way by anyone else’s reviews or opinions.
This is the second book in the series. We met both of these characters in the first book. I understood parts of their background. I, personally, really liked them together and separately. I believe that there is so much to Ty and Ellie that is nice to read. They are interesting and are connected to each other. Ellie provides the strength and so does Tyson. I liked that they are important to each other.
The suspense part was interesting, but I really want to discuss is the moments where it are holes. I can’t give any details because of spoilers, but I wasn’t a super fan of choices that the characters made. There is a lot that made me actually not want to continue reading at that moment. While I like the book, there were moments that I didn’t love. I know that it is a small town and there is suspense involved.
My Rating: I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I loved the first book and this one I liked. I believe this may be a book that if I read again, I would want to skip parts. I believe that the author was trying to continue on with the first book. I wasn’t completely disappointed, but I wanted a bit more of the relationship and less back and forth.
