Synopsis
When Thom Anteros is arrested after breaking into the Building of Historical Records, he demands to be taken before the King. A laughable demand for anyone else, Thom’s request is granted and the King spares his life. Yet what’s to become of him is left in the hands of the one person Thom truly fears – Mickey Taenia, the King’s Hangman.
Infuriated by Thom’s refusal to reveal the whereabouts of Nate and Catherine, the Hangman sends Thom to one of the worst places in the Kingdom – the slave markets of Muntenia. It is there that Thom is bought for the Red Arena: a barbaric, gladiator-type competition where the children of convicts and other unlucky souls are forced to fight to the death.

With the help of Charles Thoreau, a fellow captive, Thom begins not only to survive, but to thrive. A master of words becomes a master of death, and Thom’s prowess in the arena frightens even him.

I was lucky enough to receive this book from the author. I hope the prospective reader will read this review fully before making any prejudgments on the book. I will give the book my thoughts. These thoughts are completely my own and not swayed in any way by anyone else’s reviews or opinions.
I was ready to read this book. I love the others and was ready to start this one. Then I saw that it was a time travel style of book. I didn’t want to reread what the others had said. I also don’t want to read a prequel because I wanted more. Then I read it. I was forced to eat my own thoughts. This book exceeded all of my expectations. I don’t know how the author managed to seamlessly write the time difference, yet fit the story perfectly with the others is just wonderful.
I loved to read a dystopian world. I don’t read many successful books that take place in the dystopian world. So far, this author is the best. I loved the characters in the other books, but these new ones are just as great. The writing and the storytelling is just incredible. I don’t know how we can go forward in stories, but replaying the older characters in the past. The planning and the outlining is amazing. All I can see is how much the author loves this storyline.
My Rating: This book was awesome to read just like the others in the series. I find that I am always ready to read what this author has to say. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I like this series and I am ready to read more. I am looking forward to where the author plans on going next. This world and the storyline makes me want more. I definitely recommend this series to new dystopian leaders and dystopian lovers alike.
